the best computers to get are gaming PC or laptop's and brand new gaming laptop compered to a work station computers with same ram, processor, hard drive and same amount of graphic's ram are about 4 to $5000 differences and the gaming machine will be faster. mine has 4 gig of ram and 2 gig of graphics but it says it has 6 gig of ram and 2 gig of graphics

Thank You all for the answers. I am just building my AC ... Auggie Computer with all devices (pokeys, stepper driver etc.) enclosed. Perhaps tomorrow I can say more to the Win 7 System and PC-Hardware. My question only raised up, because I know a lot of lab-Pcs which had big problems coming from updating Driver e.g. for a gas chromatograph. This did cost 100,000 Euro for updating without any added value. I think the prob is created by switching from former Compilers to dotnet, but I am not sure.

Michael;

I suggest you give Gearotic and Auggie a try before you go out and spend any money on hardware, if it works to your liking, then nothing is needed, if not, then you can look at your option then.

1. Replace to Gamer graphics card (necessary??), more heat ..
NO, unless your video card cannot display some of our graphics, it is not necessary to exchange it, however the better the videocard, the faster it will be.

2. Use Windows XP, 7 or 8 Huh?
YES to all, make sure you properly select 32 or 64bit OS during install.

3. More Ram...
4G ram I suspect is low end, but give it a try, Auggie is free to use.

5. I have Mach 3 with pokeys, so do I need LPT?
LPT is no longer require with Auggie, depending on your pokey adapter, Auggie will work with ethernet or USB

Cheers
Bob

I hope, this is yet not answered under another thread.

I just picked a new (old) PC (former Gaming of my son) with a standard Graphics card, 4 G Ram, 1T HDD. Quadcore ?? Ghz.
Now I have several options for Auggie/Pokeys 57CNC(ethernet or USB, prefer Ethernet):
1. Replace to Gamer graphics card (necessary??), more heat ..
2. Use Windows XP, 7 or 8 ????
3. More Ram...
5. I have Mach 3 with pokeys, so do I need LPT?

If any body could answer, I would be happy.

Michael
