Hi Art

When I first joined the forum I sent you a mesage regarding my experiences with Win10 and the REC and snapshot problems.  I never did submit it to the bugs section of the forum since I determined it was more of a Windows problem rather than Gearotics.

I see now that it is pretty common.  The work around that I mentioned earlier has the advantage of freeing you up to fix technical issues rather than fighting Windows.

yes, it was always a works on some situation. Im switching it to general GDI graphics, that should make it
more comparable across the spectrum.

I've never been able to get recording to work, in either GM or GT.  I have a "Sel Codec" check box that won't check, and clicking Rec gets "Unable to create compressed stream: Check your CODEC options".  This computer has been complete rebuilt in the last couple months, other than the case and storage, plus a Windows 10 reinstall (keep files, trash apps) to go from 32 to 64 bit (couldn't get the 16GB of ram to work otherwise), and the same symptoms persist.  It creates an empty .avi file.  This machine was upgraded from W7 Pro 32b to W10 Pro 32b with the AMD internals, then the reinstall to W10 Pro 64b.  The graphics went from an AMD HD5450 (and originally an onboard nvidia something) to whatever's inside this i5 6500.  Intel HD 4000?  So many gips and gflops I can't count that high.

Snapshots generate a blank .jpg, the one I just tried was 14.2KB but displays as a blank white rectangle.

I haven't missed either one so I haven't complained.  I don't think I've tried them on my (replacement) laptop (W10 Insider 64b, i5-5200U).  It's two floors up, if I remember I'll try it the next time I hike upstairs.

Hi Art

Right now the solution of using two free programs  XNview (for snapshots)  and CamStudio (for video)  works quite well.    The XNview gives me the flexibility to capture the full Gearotic window or subsets of it.  I think I may have a similar flexibility with CamStudio but I haven't used that feature yet.

I use a free version of Freemake Video Convertor to do simple edits and format conversions and to stitch together sequences of smaller videos of my clock simulations.

Bill:

Snapshot IS due for an upgrade, I'm adding that capability shortly in the controller and will be porting it back to
GM to make its snapping work properly. Ill look  into the video then as well, later version of Windows use a new
media sub-layer so it is spotty on some systems.

Thx

I've spent the dosh, Art sent me a license and I've designed a clock already. Undo, redo etc working fine.

aawfm,
I haven't checked the snapshot and record functions yet but will do so and post the results for you.

Hi Kit

You may not be able to test  the Snapshot and Record functions until you get a license.  I am curious, after you do get a license, do the Snapshot and video REC functions work properly on your  Win10 and Win7 systems.  If not, it's not the end of the world.

I had problems after I updated a notebook computer from Win7 to Win10 and on a different computer from Win8.1 to Win10.  A bit frustrating but there are free programs to work around the problem.

Sleep? bah!..

:)

Yes, turns out its just license requirements stopping output.

If it's that simple I'll just send you some of my hard-earned cash!
I did wonder if that was the problem but assumed the message would say something more informative like "Ha, ha, buy a license".

The install is completely standard to the default location. It's the fact that I get the same problem on two totally different machines that has me worried.

Kit

PS  I'm amazed at the quick reply. It's mid-day here in Western Australia, but shouldn't you guys be in bed?

Bill:

lol, you'd think I would have caught that, thank you.

I think Ill delete my license and stop that behavior, its likely why I
never seem to see it. No sense pissing off prospective users. :-)

Thx
