I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing.
I regard him as the most influential contributor to the development of Mach3.
Whenever I saw his posts, I was there to attempt to absorb his ideas.

On John:

John was one of my closer friends. He was a mentor to me, teaching me as much as
I could absorb about gears, transmissions, 4th axis machining and such. Johns real
contributions to Mach3 were unknown to most, but his advice threads though almost all
of my code. When John suggested something was so, it was so.

That is a very rare quality. His greatest talent though, was making you laugh, while teaching
you something.

I could wax poetic for a long time on John, but the truth is I'm still overcome with
the thought of him begin gone.  To me he was family, and to say he'll be missed
seems too small a sentiment. At this point, while I'm being maudlin, he'd insert
a comment to brighten the moment, but Ill be damned if I can imagine what
it would be.

So I guess all I can do is raise my next Beer ( and he knew that was rare),
in his honor, and continue to remember what he was, one of the most
affable , talented and giving persons Ive ever had the honor of knowing. He
lives on in the memory of his innumerable friends.

Sadly,
Art

I would like to add my condolences to the Stevenson Family. From the early days of Gearotic it was John?s excellent work and encouragement that inspired us all.

Hi;

Just wanted to pass along a sad message of the passing of John Stevenson to our group. I saw him as one of the pioneers in the current machine world we have today, so he'll greatly be missed. He was also one of the moderators here at GearHeads Corner, a very good friend to Art, and always a gentlemen with a sense of humor to me. My sincere condolences to the Stevenson family, and to all he touched along his way.

Bob
