Not sure it will help in placement, but Ive added an ortho camera for next release so that perhaps the parallax
will be a bit easier to deal with. Ill let you know when its released, its basically a toggle between ortho and projection.

I am looking in to that as I too find it difficult, I will be investigating many UI changes in that context,
to make it easier to visualize where your trying to move something to..

This is just a suggestion. In Gearotics there is a "viewing head" where one can view the project workspace in 2D views instead of an isometric view.

When placing or moving individual objects into a project, it's difficult to align or move features when objects are at different levels due to parallax. When zooming in for more precise positioning, one often has the need to pan and tilt the view. When translating-in-plane the pan operation will be interpreted as a move object rather than simply trying to get a better viewing position.
