Gears get teeth cutoff

by ronginger » Thu Nov 24, 2011 12:29 am

A while ago I  made a set of elliptic gears and started taking them to model engineering shows. They have been the hit of the show, so today I thought Id make a better set and mount them better.

I used the default elliptic gear exactly as it comes up. When I cut the large gear the first pass cut through the root of the first tooth. The 6 teeth further along, about the 5:00 o'clock position it made 2 or 3 circles at the tooth tip, knocking off the tip entirely. It then did that at about 7:00, 11:00 and 1:00 in some cases it made 3 full circles at the tip. At 11:00 it did it to 4 teeth.

I also made a dxf file and it does not show the circles. I guess I could take the dxf to Vcarve and cut my gear.

On later passes it made the first tooth correctly, but continued the circle tips exactly.

Any ideas. This is V3.80

EDIT! I just repeated it with the latest version and it still does the tooth tip circles
