Geomagic, the new name for Alibre is a much improved product.  3D Systems, the 3D printer company purchased Alibre, then purchased Geomagic and merged the two companies. I think the merger is good for we users.

I have used it for drawing miniature engines since 2006 and find it to be, generally, very capable and easy to use (given that it is a 3D CAD product).

The 2014 version is much improved as Geomagic has been able to put a lot more programming effort into the product.

  I am licensed and I use ALibre, I wasnt aware of its new name. I find it hard to use to be honest,
but it does allow me to do some things I cant currently do on my own. Im hoping way down the road to
replace my reliance on alibre with my own code, but that will take some doing.
  Alibre is weak in DXF import/export, cant say how the new one is, other than that its not a bad
system, just a bit hard to figure out at times..

Used to be "Alibre Design" now called "Geomagic Design".

Has anyone worked with this? Would it complement GT? How does it compare to other 3D software for "sketching" 3D ideas?

The Sherline package for $249 includes an "advanced import export" utility.
