Here is the mechanism for the the Sisyphus type sand kinetic art piece. The base has a 120 tooth 16"D gear with a 18 tooth pinion. I used a large but quiet 16" lazy Susan bearing. The X axis uses a 3d printed motor mount, tension, end piece and carrier from Thingiverse. The motors are nema 17 and right now I'm running it on mach3 with my G540 drivers but will soon use an adruinio uno for the brain with a cnc shield.
I am now working on the sand top and sides.
