Art;

Welcome back.
While your skin appears tanned from that lovely vacation of yours, I just wanted you to know my skin is blistering from frost bite from what our local weather had to offer last week.. lol  :-\ Good timing...

Steve;

I just measured various center distances using latest version of GT as per your comments, found it accurate using round shafts, however I did find slight deviances as you say when square shafts were selected. I will make a note of this for correction for next release. If you hold your crtl key down and select via mouse the two gears or two shafts you want to measure center distances from, the graphic data overlay will quickly display these center distances. I suggest you use the round shafts for now, they appear to be proper until a fix for square shafts is available.

Thanks for your feedback.

Cheers

Center Distance Question

by Steve » Mon Mar 10, 2014 11:10 pm

I just noticed something odd related to center distances.  I don't have the capability to transfer shaft locations to another program to design frames so I have to take note of center distances and draw from scratch in Sketchup.  However I get a different center distance when selecting two shafts than I do when selecting the two gears on those shafts.  Some sets of gears don't show a center distance when selected which is OK, their shafts do.  However even when I have used the shaft to shaft function, these shafts show a center distance of 0.6252 when they should be concentric on the same point!
Is there something I am not understanding in this process? or is it a glitch?  Which center distance is correct? Shaft to Shaft center distance or Gear to Gear center distance?
