Pointed gear (compass dial)

Is there an easy way to produce what might look like a pointed gear, much like the points on a compass dial. I only want 8 points and it would be ideal if the principle ones (N, S, E, W) could be make longer than the intermediate points (NE, NW, SE, SW).

Thanks.

CNC output placement

I'm trying to make a simple gear, but when I generate g-code thru the CNC output tab, it gets placed at a position that I don't like. I'd rather it was centered at 0,0 (as it is in the project screen) so that other operations that I want to do to it are easier to calculate.

How do I get the output ...

AAWFM:

Yes. What you sent is an example of what I'm trying to do, but I'm interested in the general case so that I can specify the gears to be any size I want. I said "square" originally as an easy explanation of what I was trying to do.
How did you set the positions of each of the gears in your ...

Re: Exact positioning

Thanks Art.

Unfortunately, I'm trying to use different sizes for the various gears (artistic license) so the 90 degree trick won't work for my application.

To assist with my attempts, is there some way to minutely adjust the position (angle) of a gear within a train? If this is possible, will ...

Exact positioning

I'm trying to make a gear 'square' with all four of the gears meshing with each other (1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and then closing the square 4-1), but I can't figure out how to get the 4-1 mesh set properly. Is there a way to get Gearotica to figure out the exact placement of the shaft(s) for this?

Thanks.

Re: Verion 2.295 Online

Your message about the minor update crossed mine. I reinstalled that one (which said during install 2.294.1) and with a couple of restarts for good measure it runs and now shows under the ? as 2.295

Sorry for the false alarm.

Re: Verion 2.295 Online

Installing this latest version (2.295) still shows in the About as 2.281. Is that accurate? I'm just checking that my install actually worked.

Re: Version 2.281

That ran, and I'm a little closer. Now when it starts (splash screen shows) I get "Error Found Gearotic 3: attempt recovery". Neither a yes or no response gets anywhere.

Next?

Re: Version 2.281

Its been some time since I updated, but I can't get this version to install. After installing it (repeatedly), I continue to get the error that Gearotic "failed to start because an application configuration is incorrect".

This is an XP machine.

Suggestions?
