Thanks Art for a very fast reply to my questions.
When I click and drag the distance is properly displayed in the project window as long as I keep the mouse button pressed.
When I release it both the measured line and the text disappears. Moving the center bar down does not help.

I have gears where the a pinion gear is "welded" directly to a wheel and the combination is floating (spinning freely) on a shaft.
There are several gear sets on a common shaft so they can not be locked to the shaft.
How should I handle that?

In my case I can see the line and the displayed distance but as soon as I release the mouse button it disappear.
I saw a tutorial where the measurements were shown like on a mechanical drawing but I can not find that option.
