Art,
Joy!
As I suspected the error was with the user. Somehow I had set the backlash to 12 inches and failed to notice. Reset backlash to zero and all was well.
A big thank you to Art and John T for figuring this one out. Another big thanks to Art for being so patient with a user who really ...

Re: Problem placing gears in project.
Art,
I down loaded the development version, completely uninstalled the older version before installing the new one. Then I tried placing the default spur gears in a project. Still no joy, the gears were centered 15.7 inches apart. Next I tried switching to metric and restarting GM and placing the ...

Re: Problem placing gears in project.
Art,
I tried what you suggested, I started GM, started a new project, made sure I was set to inch mode then restarted GM. Using the default settings on the spur gear screen I made the wheel and pinion. Unfortunately they do not mesh, their centers are set at 15.7 inches apart, one more inch than ...

Re: Problem placing gears in project.
I have done a bit more playing around and now I seem to be getting the same problem with everything but elliptical gears. I have no problems placing an elliptical gear in a project unless it is a 2nd order elliptical then I get a "solid creation failed" error. I don't know if this helps or just ...

Re: Problem placing gears in project.
Well here is the project (if I can get the attachment to work). As you can see there two gears spaced 14.6 inches part. I hope this can work out. As I have said before the problem could be user error. Let me know what you think.
Be Well,
John

Problem placing gears in project.
I am very new to GM so this may be a simple case of user error.
When I make a spur gear wheel and pinion pair and place the gears in a project the shaft centers are always 14.6 inches apart. This happens with any combination of spur gears. I have changed every parameter I can think of but the ...
