I'm getting a 916 error when I try to open Thoughts. Anyone know of a fix? Reload?

My screen doesn't look like the help file
Just found this software and got the license this morning. I'm reading through the help file and have a few discrepancies. On page 19, fig.9, shows to have a left screen and fig.10, shows a right screen. I just have one screen on the spur gear page, and I don't have ?? icon at the bottom left hand ...
