Thanks Art for the info but on that last sentence:
"though Id just make the slot for the encoder shaft elongated
and adjust the encoder closer till its a tight fit myself."
So the tooth peak never hits the tooth root which means you can
adjust the mesh to where it is somewhat tight? Do I have that ...

Anti-backlash gearing
I did a search here on the subject of anti-backlash gearing and came up empty.
So I am asking the question about anti-backlash gearing and don't think there is any info in the gearotic software about this or specifics
in the way to implement them.
I see where springs are added to make one gear take ...

Re: Cutter labeling
Turns out the chart you show is the opposite to what the cutters actually are, so the chart the seller showed is correct
and I verified by looking at the number 1 and 8 cutters and could see which one was the 135 to rack easily.

Re: Splines
Several months ago I needed to make an internal spline to mate with the spline on the output shaft of an RC servo.
I was able to find info on this particular servo spline that gave me the root diameter so I was able to get some idea as to tooth depth.
From there I ground a HS lathe bit into a ...

Re: Cutter labeling
Before I had posted this topic here I had sent a message to the seller of these cutters about the labeling.
They replied back after you responded with that list of numbers versus number of teeth and dumb a** me
I should have scrolled down on the listing farther and there was a chart showing cutter ...

Re: Cutter labeling
TNX the info Art.
I got these cutters on eBay from a seller in Ukraine. I bought 2 sets , a M0.3 (wow tiny gears!) and M0.5
and one set is etched U.S.S.R. They look OK and as far as I can tell never been used.

Cutter labeling
I just recently purchased another set of gear cutters (M0.5) and I have a question about how they are etched-labeled.
Usually I see etched on the side of the cutter not only the Modulus of the cutter (M0.5 in this example) but along
with that a range of teeth the cutter will cut.
This new set i got ...

Re: OD calculation
Art,
I have another question about Gearotic on Projects window. Should I create a different subject? Not sure so will
ask here anyway.
Using the Tools tab I am able to see 2 gears (pinion & wheel) that are meshed together and when I send each
to the Project window the gears end up on a common shaft ...

Re: OD calculation
I would use the tangentially method for larger gear tooth sizes that are higher Mod numbers where
a shaped cutter might be too expensive to buy.

Re: OD calculation
I used a shaped cutter, the mod 1's set I purchased a year ago. I used a G0704 mill converted to CNC with Flashcut
hardware and software. The g-code generated by Gearotic worked with out making any changes. Sometimes
Flashcut doesn't like the way some g-code commands are setup but not in this case ...
