Re: Gearotic on virtual/cloud computer?

My apologies for raising up an old thread, but for the benefit of anyone else considering the matter -- I ended up going with Parallels installed locally on my M2 Mac, Windows 11, and Gearotic installed just fine. I haven't run full simulations or anything, but I noodled around for a while and ...

Gearotic on virtual/cloud computer?

Has anyone used Gearotic on a cloud or virtual desktop service? If so, which one and how did it work out?

...I've switched laptops to an M2 Mac Air, and Gearotic is the last application I haven't brought over to the new computer. I gave CrossOver a whirl, but didn't have much luck, so I'm thinking ...

Re: Mercury-to-Saturn Orrery

Lasered the gears, which is now my favorite way of generating gearing that isn't going to carry big loads -- fast, accurate and tidy. Plus it becomes really easy to prototype -- the exact same design file can be used to cut cardboard as well as the final acrylic.

For really thick materials the kerf ...

Mercury-to-Saturn Orrery

Finally got around to mostly finishing my orrery a little while ago (um, "decision paralysis" is the bane of my existence). Since Gearotic was key in helping me select completely insane Modules for these gears (to maintain a single center distance for all gear pairs) I figured I'd make a quick post ...

Re: Virus Warnings

Incidentally, I just (literally right now) got a Windows Security warning saying:

Threat detected: Trojan:Win32/Spursint.F!cl
Alert level: Severe
Category: Trojan
Details: This program is dangerous and executes commands from an attacker.
file: C:\Users\[username]\Downloads\GearoticSETUP2.exe ...

Technology of Watch Production (PDF)

I was recently pointed to this PDF, a copy of an old book by S.V. Tarasov on the "Technology of Watch Production".

...I searched around a bit and didn't find any prior mentions here, so I thought y'all might find it interesting, as it's pretty darn detailed. My apologies if it's excessively off ...

Re: Topping/Rounding Up Tool?

Weird, are you using Chrome? The link goes to a machinery reseller on the East Coast, and they don't use HTTPS, so some installations of Chrome may stop you from going there (I mean, if it's been set to avoid non-HTTPS sites as being a security risk).

Alternatively, then, there are several listed ...

Re: Topping/Rounding Up Tool?

Yep, they seem to have been used for situations (watchmaking, not clock making) where it was easier to run a slitting saw around a circle, and then load the result into the topping/rounding tool to get the final tooth form. They mainly seem to use what are often called Carpano cutters (although ...

Topping/Rounding Up Tool?

Well, I wasn't sure where to put this, but I figured someone here might know and this category seemed broadly appropriate...

...does anyone know where I might find a set of plans/diagrammatic drawings for an old (1800s) topping tool (also a "rounding up tool")? I've been digging for patents etc ...
