New Version 4.93.03

Post by ArtF »

Hi All:

Above version is online. It includes naming of objects ( right click in project tree ) and new font selections ( options tab).

Although you can design a gravity ratchet , they are not yet released for creation. I just figured the new fonting is something
many people need and Im hoping this iteration helps. Let me know how it looks on your system.

Thx
Art

Hi Art,
All three font sizes work clear and sharp on my machine, but then I didn't have a big problem before.  It is much clearer now.

This is version 4.93.03 but my about in GT says 1.07 and GM 4.920  Not a problem for me but thought you might like to know.

To access at the options in the drop down menu I have to right click is that correct?  On Right Click the changes I make take effect with no problem.

Naming of items works as advertised.

Thanks as aways Art

Art,
Font is a lot lot better.
However  :) you have to diameter listed now as you said you would but pitch circle is still in radii.

Also in GM if you shift a gear you get the ex-pitch diameter listed, not so in GT you get shift coefficient listed which is showing in the box anyway.

I have been playing with 2 gears today a 125T and 127 and because of design limitations I have to make these identical even though they are 2 teeth different.
Far easier to do in GM than GT. and the printed results in diameters are more meaningful.

BTW Small son liked his license file !! No one will steal that !!

Hi :

Thanks for the font reports, sounds as  if their getting better now.

John:

Ill swap the pitch to diam, and see about the ex-pitch on shifted coef.. I hadnt spent much time in there,
it was mostly just getting the control code done, Ill slowly be changing the actual displayed data to whatever
people find usefull, trivial now that the code is complete.

Thx

John:

In future will be as shown before. ( Unless people want other data added. )
In this version, since you can see EX-Pitch and such, the difference between GM's
coeff shift and GT's becomes apparent as the numbers differ quite a bit. GT's are
the correct figures. :)

Magic.
Does GT show the max endmill required like GM did ?

John:

Good point.. Not as yet, Ill add it to my list. You can, however, see the tool path created, which, if the tool
is too large can be seen crossing over itself. Ill set about the required calculations as to max diam and min length..

helical gears,
leave the left handed box unclicked and so it's right handed but it list a LH helical.
If you select 2 RH or2 LH it shows them offset in the project tree but if you go back and alter then the project window doesn't get updated.

Then delete the last gear leaving the first gear in the project screen and you can't tab back to the circular gear module to make any changes.

Hi John:

Thx for those. The LH/RH was backwards on its selection. Also, when a gear is deleted, all creation windows
are closed so "Round gear" would have had to be selected again, that window to tab to should have been closed, Ill
fix that as well. The closing of tool windows when a gear is deleted is just to ensure that no crashes occur from
windows trying to access an object no longer available, Ill see if I can tighten that up as well.

Its still a bit early going for the GUI, though its getting much more stable , it still needs some cleaning up
functionallity wise now that stability has been achieved, ( no crash reports in several versions now..).

Thx

Hi John:

(as of next release)

OK, fixed up those so that LH/RH is correct ( in my world of logic its CCW and CW so I sometimes
get them backwards. :) )

Also, I fixed it up so only the tool that NEEDs to be closed to stop inadvertant crashing close, so now
if you delete a gear you can still tab into the gear window to create another without reselecting that tool.
( I do find this works better..thx for that bug..)

I also added more text in the involute text to show the pressure angle, the extended pressure angle if shifting
is also displayed. This sections worries me as the differences between GM and GT are quite large. If you
for example do a profile shift of .5 on the wheel and -.5 on the pinion, the result is no change on the
pitch diameter on either gear. I had to triple check this as it sounds wrong.. but the formulas are
pretty insistant on that point, they do not consider profile shift to be a 1 gear calculation, both gears are
included and cancel each other out, but do increase the outside radius. ( which to me implies a new pitch radius..
but apparently not ...or we're into bad formula's published again.. ).  We'll see I guess...
