And it can be very satisfying to see if the old card blends, makes a nice burst on the trap range, or has a date with Mr. Sledgehammer ;D
Windows might get snappier. Last year's budget card will stomp a 10 year old high-end card.
Forgot to say he'll need to double check that Windows XP drivers are available, but that shouldn't be too big an issue. I patched some WfWG systems together with spit and baling wire for years for a long term consulting customer that just wouldn't get rid of his old (not-so-)reliable machines - now that was a big pain. He retired, the old boxes met mister dumpster after a full backup of their monster 2 GB drives.

Release 4.67 Install's, Error Message When Trying To Start

Not good that GlDoctor wont run at all, its just a diagnostic checker that an OpenGL system is working at all, it doesnt even stress it, it just asks the card what its capable of. Your driver should be at level 6.14.10.8545 according to ATI. And it should run OpenGL programs correctly.
It could be a problem in system software though. Have you tried running "dxdiags" form the start/run button? Hit run, then type in DXDIAGS and see if you can run some of the display tests. ( This is a suggestion for XP, Im not sure your OS.)
Somethign is wrong for sure, and it may require a relaod of windows to be sure the graphics systems are working properly. At the very least you shoudl be able to run the OpenGL doctor and other OpenGL programs..

You said "Your driver should be at level 6.14.10.8545 according to ATI." I just looked via Catalyst Control Center, that's the one.
You said "Have you tried running "dxdiags" form the start/run button? Hit run, then type in DXDIAGS and see if you can run some of the display tests. Based on other suggestions I looked for OpenGL, found C:\WINDOWS\system32\opengl32.dll .
So evidently I have something. What next?

Re: Release 4.67 Install's, Error Message When Trying To Start
Hi:
On your ATI , there should be a setting in the ocntrol panel for acceleration. It has been found on several ATI
type of cards, that if you turn acceleration off, or down ( many have a slider for it..), that errors stop. It may be
worthwhile to try that before anything else.
While the card is an older model, it shouldnt error out from running somethng liek the gldoctor or GM.. , but
on some cards from that era, it does happen. So look for the acceleration and turn it down, also turn off any special features
the card may offer, like trilinear interpolation..anything it lists as an option.
Thx
