'Undo' problem.

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry that my first post is a bug report, I've been thoroughly enjoying finding out what Gearotic Thoughts can do and am looking forward to making my first clock as soon as I get my just-completed CNC router calibrated and buy a license.

I've downloaded the latest stable release to both my HP laptop (Windows 10) and my desktop PC (Windows 7). I've also tried the latest development version on the desktop. I get the same symptoms on both machines:

When I try to 'undo' anything I get a message from Gearotic telling me I've "Attempted to access an unnamed file past it's end" and the entire project contents get deleted. 'Redo' is not available. Even if I save the project immediately before the 'undo', reloading the saved project gets me the same empty window as clicking on 'new'.

I've tried searching the forum but haven't found a reference to this error message before.

Kit

Sorry Kit:

Ill run some tests to see whats up, I know I did some work in there recently, so perhaps I

Hi Kit:

I just tested here with no errors. Can you answer a couple questions on your install?

1) Did you install in the suggested "C:\Gearotic Motion" folder, or instead install
in some other program folder?

2) Can you try running by right clicking its Icon and selecting "Run as Admin".

Im wondering if its installed in program files and failing permissions to
create temporary backup files..

Thx
Art

Hi Art, & Kit

I noticed in Kit's original message that he was exploring the program and mentioned "when I buy a license"

Undo will not work without a license.  Redo will not show up without being able to do an Undo.  A similar effect will happen if a license file is not present in the installed location.

Bill:

lol, you'd think I would have caught that, thank you.

I think Ill delete my license and stop that behavior, its likely why I
never seem to see it. No sense pissing off prospective users. :-)

Thx
Art

If it's that simple I'll just send you some of my hard-earned cash!
I did wonder if that was the problem but assumed the message would say something more informative like "Ha, ha, buy a license".

The install is completely standard to the default location. It's the fact that I get the same problem on two totally different machines that has me worried.

Kit

PS  I'm amazed at the quick reply. It's mid-day here in Western Australia, but shouldn't you guys be in bed?

Sleep? bah!..

:)

Yes, turns out its just license requirements stopping output.

Thx

Hi Kit

You may not be able to test  the Snapshot and Record functions until you get a license.  I am curious, after you do get a license, do the Snapshot and video REC functions work properly on your  Win10 and Win7 systems.  If not, it's not the end of the world.

I had problems after I updated a notebook computer from Win7 to Win10 and on a different computer from Win8.1 to Win10.  A bit frustrating but there are free programs to work around the problem.

I've spent the dosh, Art sent me a license and I've designed a clock already. Undo, redo etc working fine.

aawfm,
I haven't checked the snapshot and record functions yet but will do so and post the results for you.

Regards

Kit

Bill:

Snapshot IS due for an upgrade, I'm adding that capability shortly in the controller and will be porting it back to
GM to make its snapping work properly. Ill look  into the video then as well, later version of Windows use a new
media sub-layer so it is spotty on some systems.
