Scimitar mod? what are the physics?

I was thinking of a way to quiet down my Scimitar. I saw one user mentioned using felt at the contact points and I considered it.
I'm curious if there is a way to recapture some of that lost energy with the use of a spring positioned at the point where the escapement wheel drives the shaft cam.
Anybody want to chime in on this?
