Worm gears

Post by Martin »

First, sorry for my poor English skills. :(

I would like to know at what point will there finally be worm gears?

Had already asked one and a half years ago after. ::)

Will the program as a multi-language.

this would simplify many things.

Unfortunately, I am now in an age where you unwilling to learn a new language.
So I do not always understand everything. ???

Would be nice to know, which is also being worked on.
and this would significantly increase the customer group.

Until then, great work from you!
Greetings, Mart

Hi Martin:

There is no real development list of when a feature will become available. It usually depends on how many ask for a feature, how possible is it, and
if its possible to easily build one from code to make the output usefull.  I have no yet reall figured out how exactly one will make a worm gear, while I
agree they woudl be usefull, the actual output code to make them is difficult to do with a standard 4 axis machine, its more of a 5 axis device.

I dont think you'll see worm gears in the near future, not by end of this year anyway.. I think I have enough future code to write that it will be
into next year before worm gears will be seen.

3D printable worm gears might be useful, although they'd be limited to lower power.

I'm still working on getting back to a Roots with square shafts (and a working CNC router for tabs...) and not sure my vote for one is worth much right now.  Googling "3D printer worm gear" found quite a few hits, including some stls, so there might be something else to use.

Kirk:

Yes, thats one of my issues, a 3d printed worm would wear otu pretty quick Id think.. or wouldnt print very well.. And that woudl leave us with another
issue like bevels, but worse. We can print a working bevel, Ive printed several, but cncing them is much more difficult.. worms are also hard to machine and also hard to
print, which makes them questionable as to if time should be invested in them..
Bevels I intend to cure with an engraving module, more of a 3d waterline type of cut..worms cant even easily be solved that way..

But Ill ruminate on them while Im on my hiatus...

I'd be ok with generating a hobbing tool for now.

Perhaps there could be tools for designing, machining, and printing worm wheels that work with standard threaded rods and maybe standard acme screws. Print the wheel, buy the worm.

Jerry:

Depending on the worm you have that now, many worms use a normal spur gear as the wheel,
the worm is just a single gear tooth wrapped on a cylinder. Fully enveloped would have the spur
gear turned down a bit on its tooth center, but still very simular..
