I'm the one having a problem importing a DXF file from Gearotic into Fusion 360.  I've tried to do this with several different gears and I always get a corrupt file.  It appears that the DXF file produced by Gearotic is being corrupted.  So I assume that the problem is with Gearotic not Fusion 360.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Michael

Michael

I just tested a Gearotics output on a Windows 10 system and was able to import it into LibreCAD which is an open source CAD program.

I am not familiar with Fusion360.
First of all are you using a Windows systems or a MAC?  I am strictly a PC person.  You may be on your own if Fusion360 is on a MAC system.

Are you using a function from within Fusion360 to open the file?  If so, then Fusion360 may be misidentifying the file or the OS may be associating the .dxf  extension with a PDF reader instead of Fusion360.

I see from the Fusion360 website that it translates a bunch of standard CAD formats but DXF is not one of them.

From their website:
"Import standard CAD formats, such as SLDPRT, SAT, IGES, STEP, STL, and OBJ. Fusion 360 will keep your original file and create an F3D counterpart."

Gearotics does output in STL format, you may want to try that format with Fusion360.

Hi Bill that info is a bit out of date, you can import .dxf and .dwg now.

I tried Michael file on a few different programs, V carve pro, autocad360, A360, fusion and .dxf viewers they all failed for some reason they think it's a .pdf.

once's he has a good file it can be tested again.

can you post one so I can test.

Its probable that it would be better to do all the work in gearotic as fusion has some problems with dxf files. I will have to show Michael how to do it so it work properly in fusion. other wise he wont have fun at all.

Hi DanL

I guess Fusion 360 needs to update their webpage since the quote was copied directly from their site this evening.

DanL

I went back through this post and followed the link to the autodesk forum.  Was the file Michael posted titled Untitled1.dxf?

If so, I downloaded it and it did open in LibreCAD.

I'm at a standstill with this problem.  I can't determine if the DXF file produced by Gearotic is facility or not.  I know that after creating the DXF file when I try to open it up in Gearotic it tells me the file is "corrupt or incomplete".  I also know that if I open the DXF file in Fusion 360 it opens the file and the gear appears correct but if I try to do anything with the file Fusion 360 gives me a message that "Fusion 360 has stopped working and is shutdown".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

we need a working file for fusion first, you need to sort the file export from gearotic first, are you able to describe the steps you use to export the .dxf.

just post a .dxf exported from gearotic here I will test if it's you or fusion
